He went on to sum upthe organization’s goals and aspirations, “The success of our members and the improvement in overall health care are paramount”, only to conclude on a more emotional note, welcoming the numerous soon-to-be diplomats and fellows who travelled all the way from Syria to attend the meeting, given the unstable situation in their country.Prof. Nada Naaman, Dental Medicine Faculty Dean and Meeting Co-President, then extended her thanks to the ICOI, its Co-Chairman Dr. Judy and its President Dr. Scortecci, for this fruitful partnership. She went on to announce the celebrations for the Faculty’s 95-year anniversary, retracing its beginnings, adaptation and evolution, and concluded by highlighting the artistic program accompanying the event, specifically intended “to bring some quietness to our chaotic, ruthless world...”It was then that Reverend Father Salim Daccache, Rector of Saint Joseph University, welcomed all the esteemed guests to this 140-year-old University,an institution wouldn’t have survived two world wars and numerous local civil disputes if it had not clung to its roots and stayed loyal to its principles. He thenunderlined the great importance of research and scientific openness in the prosperityand advancement of such an inveterate institution. Finally, Dr. Christian Makary, the meeting’s Scientific Chairperson and President of the ICOI Lebanon chapter, thanked the previous speakers, the Faculty and the University for their relentless support inICOI President, Dr. Gerard Scortecci and Co-Chairman, Dr. Kenneth Judy at 1st Int’l Implant Symposium, ICOI Lebanon.Lebanon Fellowship and Diplomate award recipients.organizing an event of this scale in a country with such precarious surroundings. He retraced the obstacles and challenges in setting up this local chapter and stressed its inherent role in the evolution and improvement of the profession both locally and regionally. The meeting reached regional and international heights, gathering global leaders in oral implantology with an exceptional panel of international lecturers sharing their clinical expertise in surgical practice, as well as recent advancements in research, academics and overall industry with a full-house conference room thanks to a large number of local and regional (mainly from Syria) attendees. It was the chance for prominent names such as Jochen Alius (GER), Wael Att (GER), Joseph Choukroun (FRA), Georges Goumenos (GRE), Georges Khoury (FRA), Gerardo Pellegrino (ITA), Pedro Peña (SPA), Alberto Rebaudi (ITA), Marco Ronda (ITA), Gerard Scortecci (FRA), Simone Verardi (ITA) and TomasoContinued on next page.DIPLOMATE AWARD RECIPIENTS:Dr. Aref El NatourFELLOWSHIP AWARD RECIPIENTS:Dr. Mowaffak AjajDr. Ahmad Basem AlhalakDr. Ziad AltrkDr. Ammar AssasaDr. Mohamad S. The first prize was awarded to Dr. Joseph Abi Nasr for his impeccable presentation entitled: “Ultrasonic Implant Site Preparation: An In Vitro Evaluation”.(From, left to right) ICOI Co-Chairman, Dr. Kenneth Judy and newly appointed ICOI Lebanon President, Dr. Christian Makary, ICOI Syria President, Dr. Rashad Murad and Vice President, Dr. Charl Yousef.ICOI Co-Chair, Dr. Kenneth Judy, ICOI President Dr. Gerard Scortecci and Saint Joseph University Prof. Dean Nada Naaman .The meeting was also the occasion for many applicants to receive their advanced credentials and become ICOI Diplomates and Fellows. On another note, ICOI Lebanon’s Symposium was an opportunity for guest speakers and attendees to visit Lebanon and experience its breath-taking landscapes, its majestic historical and archeological sites and its unique mixed and vibrant cultures. Nevertheless, the highlight of the “extra-curricular” activities was the exquisite Lebanese cuisine which was enjoyed on numerous occasions and in different forms and variations, be it on the formal events, such as the gala dinners and symposium lunches, or on more private and spontaneous endeavors. The least that can be said about this meeting is that it was a success on many levels, best of luck to ICOI Lebanon and may the future bring nothing but improvement and progress.Ad majorem dei gloriam.4ICOI WORLD NEWS • August 2015]]></page><page Index="5" isMAC="true"><![CDATA[Around The World IRANIran COI Surges ForwardThe first Congress of Iran COIwas held June 10-12, 2015, in the Tehran Olympic Hotel. But the range of topics in discussion was quite larger, and lots of interesting professional experiences were shared between speakers and congress attendees.Since A.I.S.I. is an ICOI affiliated society, the congress hosted many ICOI Fellows among its speakers, namely Dr. Jack T. Krauser and Dr. Avi Schetritt, from Florida, U.S.A., Dr. Pablo Galindo Moreno, from Spain, and Drs. Jabbar Hasanov and Nigar Hasanova, from Azerbaijan; which made the event a real extensive, worldwide sharing experience.Actually A.I.S.I. has always been open to any scientific contribution, coming both from the professional and the academic worlds; and new experiences from other countries and different implant schools are absolutely welcome.Beside the main program for dentists, two lateral sessions had been set up for laboratory technicians and auxiliaries, following the A.I.S.I. philosophy of promoting an efficient co-operation within the whole dental team. The scientific schedule was extremely rich and tight, but there was also time to relax and enjoy some pleasant coffee breaks, good talks and a lively social dinner in a typical Bolognese historical restaurant. Not only good food and wine, but a lively relaxed atmosphere, music and lots of dancing and good humor.A.I.S.I.’s next International Congress will be held in Bologna next March 4-5, 2016, and all the ICOI members are absolutely welcome to attend it.By Stefania Farneti, A.I.S.I SecretaryDr. Avi Schetritt (left), from U.S.A.,being awarded by Chairman Dr. Baris Tunali (right), from Turkey, after his lecture at the A.I.S.I.
